Analysis for Chronicle trailer
Music that is used in the trailer:
The music that is used is upbeat and gives a sense of
normality. The music at the end contrasts and is spooky this is effective as it
is used when they acquire their powers and creates a mysterious atmosphere, the
music also creates an enigma leaving the audience wanting more
How have they used music to create different atmospheres?
Spooky music is used
to create a mysterious and curious atmosphere
This is a screenshot of when they find the meteor that gives
them their powers, there is spooky music playing in the background that engages
the viewer making you want to find out more.
How have they tried to attract a young audience in the trailer?
The film attracts a
teenage audience by the use of the modern music playing in the background:
This is when Jessie j price tag is playing in the car at the
beginning this highlights the young age group of the actors and the audience
that it’s trying to address, the audience can relate to this song and gives the
idea of this being realistic and at modern time.
Special effects:
In this trailer there are lots of different special effects
used. Special effects can be used to separate each clip from each other; they
can also be used to make it look like it is being filmed from a hand held
camera. In this trailer they have used the transitions effectively as they
aren't over used, and separate each clip from each other in a professional
standard. They have also used them to create different atmospheres.
Transitions:
In this trailer there are numerous of transitions used, so here are some examples of some of them:
Pixerlated
This transition is a Pixel effect. So in this clip it starts
pixerlated and then it fades into the clear picture. This effect is used to
create the atmosphere of them in a car using a hand held camera.
Shutter
This is a shutter special effect and they have used this to
create the sense of the hand held camera, and you can see that the camera has
shuttered causing this effect. The reason for this is to make it feel like you’re
watching it in third person, so it feels like as if you are there.
Horizontal bars
This is a horizontal bars effect and this is used to make it
look like the clip is being played on VHS player.
Static
This is a static special effect and this is again used to
make it look like it is being played back through the camera or on an old
telly. This transition is used to create a sense of a mysterious atmosphere.
Flash
This is used right at the end of the clip and it is used
just as they look at the meteor, so this flash makes it look like something has
happened and this is when they obtain their powers! After the flash happens the
trailer ends, so this is used to create a cliff hanger so then people will want
to watch the actual movie to see what happens after they get their powers.
Special effects/Transitions conclusion:
In this trailer they have used lots of different types of
special effects. The makers of this trailer have purposely used these special
effects to create a first person effect; they have done this to make it look
like everything is being watched back on a hand held camera. For example they
have used a pixel effect and this makes it look like the camera is out of focus
and they have also used a shutter effect so this makes it look like someone is
holding the camera as it isn't still. So overall they have made this trailer to
make you feel as if you are there with them
Camera work:
They have used a hand held camera to give us the sense of
first person. By using first person it makes us feel like we are there with them
and that we are the camera man. They have also used a lot of different shot
types to create the first person feeling. They have used a lot of different camera angles
to create different atmospheres and also to highlight certain objects that may
be in the clip.
Genre:
The genre for the film varies I feel it has areas of comedy,
action and drama which is effective and aims for a teenage audience who are
interested in these specific genres of films.
Here are different print screens to show the three different types of genre:
Comedy
The genre of comedy is enlisted in the film as the teenage
humour is put across in the film that brings the viewers closer to the
relationship between the friends give us a realistic look into their lives. In this
clip they have used their powers to make the teddy levitate, this come across
as comedy as it is a funny clip where they try to scare the girl.
Action
The action goes on throughout but it is shown in this scene
once the character has attained his powers and begins to use them to break the
law, stealing from a shop as shown above
Drama
The genre of drama is also shown as this clip creates
suspense and draws the audience in as there perfect lives start to show a side
of evil.

Target audience Interview
What are the main genres of films that you are interested in?
Well, honestly I have a passion for action and comedy films I find that its easy to get swept up in the film and start to fill for the characters which is amazing. I do also have a keen interest of fantasy films as the whole superhero and villain roles are classic and the like of productions from marvel and DC lead the fantasy film world for me.
What characters in films do you warm too?
Personally I always feel that characters that I can relate to are the most entertaining and through the use of empathy I can really get into the characters shoes. For example if they are of a similar age or are in school or education I find it really easy to relate to the character and see from there point of view. Such as the British comedy TV series The Inbetweeners which was very popular I feel this was because it related to its target audience of teenagers who would be still in educations like the characters in the program however having a humorous spin on there everyday school life, I feel this is a prime example how relating to your target audience can benefit to the popularity of your production.
What defines a good film too you?
I feel the leading action films are clearly defined by the special effects and stunts that are shown on screen this is because it really gives a thrilling experience that me as a viewer finds hard not to be completely drawn in too I also feel that a good comedy is one where the characters are not overly cheesy and are believable. For example action films such as Rambo when the protagonist borders on invincible is what far to over he top.
Is it only big productions your interested in?
Of course I am a huge fan of blockbusters and Hollywood productions but the small independent low budget films that have a relate table story or characters in a similar setting to me I find equally engaging. Such films as kidolthood where there are young teenagers are in a setting such as London which can be related to me as I have been to the locations in the film who have a engaging violent story line is a prime example of how a low budget film can captivate a young audience who has experience or heard of similar experience, the reality of the film to me makes it believable and not unrealistic.
You say you enjoy fantasy films what attributes of the film do you find intriguing?
Well really its more of just the unique and magnificent ways in which normal life can be twisted in films such as Avatar which are people from Earth that voyage to different worlds in the universe, I like that they keep the foundation of life on Earth and then create a sense of huge life out there, I find it engaging and just makes you really think about the journey of the film. The effects and animation in the fantasy films are remarkable, I feel it broadens the imagination and for people who like to be in the edge of there seat fantasy films really keep the viewer on constant edge with the astounding ways and situations that the characters get into in our world or the next.

15/11/2012- Synergy During Our Production
Synergy is the sharing of media from more then one platform. The use of synergy in are production was very effective as it created a brand identity for impulse inc, it means that we can share are work over different platforms such as YouTube, Blogger and Facebook creating a brand identity to the public and to create a constant house style throughout so are name is recognised by followers and can be trusted with the work and products we produce.
After final production we would upload are short films on to YouTube through a private account, this allowed us to get feedback from the most popular internet videoing site in the world, it didn't take long for are video to be watched and reviewed , the feedback received was all healthy and we took the advice and went on to improve. We had also used synergy by uploading are influential films presentations and evaluations to YouTube so that are audience can get a better understanding of or work and background into our production, the benefit of this is that it gave us a much wider audience for feedback by using other platforms instead of just getting reviewed by friends and others on the Media A level course.
From the start of our project we knew that the of use synergy of YouTube would be hugely influential and beneficial as there are so many young producers operating through YouTube who are there to help and guide others with encouraging feedback. We had also realised this from previous unlisted videos we had uploaded to YouTube before the course that uploading your production to YouTube gives you a much wider audience and greater chance of expanding your name.
We had also used synergy through the platform of Facebook this was also hugely beneficial as it gave a greater certainty of getting reviewed and as the majority of our Facebook friends are a similar age group of the younger teenage audience are video could be watched and commented by what has been our target audience throughout all our production. So this gave us feedback from the audience we aimed for and also broadened the followers and acknowledged of our brand identity of impulse inc. After uploading to Facebook it showed through the positive feedback that we had created a short film that reached out due to the use of witty humour and action greatly appreciated by the teenage generation.
Finally the last platform we used synergy for was Blogger. We had uploaded all our progress from the year since the creation of impulse inc onto Blogger so that are audience could see all the background information into our team and production, this was highly beneficial as our followers on Blogger are all currently or have produced short films or trailers, so that the advice that we would received from them was highly productive. We had connected all of this platforms together by adding links to each different form so that the audience can follow our progress and production and the link of these platforms allow them to work together to raise awareness to our product and having created a cohesive style throughout they can clear see our brand identity and that its is our work.
We had kept a clear professional style on each platform that we used so that it makes our production at impulse inc have a consistent appearance and house style throughout holding the interest of our followers and to show a sleek and modern look.

Feedback from our focus group
Callum Price influential film; fantastic four
The feedback that we attained;
Q1.Do you think this scene looks professional?
Yes professional - the editing and sound makes it realistic and you can tell that it has been expensively done.
Q2. How would we be able to create something similar to the effects in this short clip?
It could be possible with the use of green screen but may be very challenging but if the time is spent you could pull it off.
Q3. How could we show that the storm has given us these powers?
Maybe show the peoples using their powers instantly after being hit to give the audience an insight into what each individual person has.
Thomas Morgan influential film; Misfits
Q1. What age group do you think our film that is similar to this clip would appeal too?
Teenagers 15+ as they would be able to relate to the teenage characters, the clothes and situation that the actors are set in (6 form/college) and so they will understand the humour in which we hope to bring into our film.
Q2. What can we use to do something similar to the high standard storm shown in misfits?
Green screens will be need to use and slow motion , wide shot showing the storm effecting all of the characters at one and different angles to show emotion and shock to what has just happened to them.
Q3. Do you think the humour in this film is appropriate and do you think we should do something similar as our film is similar in audience?
Yes the humour is very suitable for a teenage age group which you are aiming for so would be effective however you need to be careful about the swearing as it may offend but if it works and is humorous I’m sure it will work well.
Ellis Trutwien influential film; a Spanish YouTube short film inspired by dragon ball z
Q1. Do you think that they have made the film look realistic and believable to the audience?
Yes the punching and kicking look realistic however the sound is very unrealistic and farfetched however it is effective in the idea that they have tried to copy the overdramatic fighting featured in the TV show dragon ball z. Although another downside is that the sound quality is crackly so this comes across as poorly done and unrealistic. The swinging when punching was also really overdramatic and would look ineffective if you used in your own film.
Q2.What did you think the dramatic music and sound effects work well with the fight scene?
To over the top sounded like star wars. The music is key to the build up however needs to mirror the mood in which you are trying to create to be effective.
Q3.How can we do something similar and as effective and entertaining?
The camera angles is key in the fight scenes so that you can be safe but make it look realistic, athleticism you will need to train and practise to make it look professional and like you are skilled fighters. Rolling on floors and martial arts and free running would look very effective if you could research into these arts it would look effective in your film.
Q4.What effects shown in this film our that you know of would highlights the superpowers that are actors have attained?
Force fields, a storm darkness/ gloom highlights mood of the change in state of the actor turning evil. Will look effective if the weather can instantly change to show a disruption in the world and show the strength of our powers.

Music Permission Massive Attack -Tear drop (Instrumental Remix)
This is 'Massive Attack - Teardrop (Instrumental Remix)' created by CBY10111. I asked many people on YouTube and tried contacting many artist's websites. Most of my attempts failed. Eventually one person replied, confirming that I can use his music in my short film, this allows me to get round the copright issue if the artist gave me permission. The music is required because I need a soft neutral beat, and when I listen to this song I get a feeling of new beginnings, which is like in our short film you have the two teenagers carrying on with their life and also the addition of Lucas possibly coming back to life after his grave gets hit by red lightning. The soundtrack will also carry on through the credits.

Influential Media - Fantastic 4
This is an influential film to us as these characters get
hit by a magical storm and then they get super powers from it. In our film we
are doing a similar thing as we have three main characters and they are all out
together and they get hit by lightening, which is caused by the magical storm.
When our characters get hit by lightening they receive these magical powers.
Also in fantastic four there is one guy that miss treats his powers, so he
starts to want to become more powerful and then takes his powers for bad use.
We are doing something similar to this as well because one of the three friends
gets too carried away and then starts to use his powers for bad, so then the
other two friends have to team up to defeat there friend.
This is when the magical storm hits:
This is another shot of the magical storm:
This is where one of the characters gets hit by the storm:
This is another character getting hit by the storm:
Camera work:
The camera work in this film shows loads of close ups of the
characters faces, so we can see the emotions in their facial expressions. In
our film we want to have loads of close ups so the audience can see their
reactions when they realise they have powers, we also want the audience to see
their emotions they are going through when they discover their powers. Also in
this film they use the camera for long shots as well as close ups and they also
use a lot of establishing shots, so when we make our film we want a variety of
different shots and different types of camera work.
This is a close up, so you can see their facial expressions:
This is also another close up so you can see the facial
expressions:
This is another facial expression after she has just
realised her powers:
This is also another facial expression that is used; we like
how they have use a over shoulder shot and then display his facial expression
in the mirror:
In our film we want each character to have their signature
pose where they display their powers. In fantastic four they have a similar
pose that we would like to use.
This is the signature pose that we would like to use but we
want to change the flame into a small lightning bolt:
