Excellent music choice – Dramatic music at the start builds up tension and the music gives the film a more action feel.
Sound effects work well with visuals.
Titles and voiceover look realistic, makes it seem more professional.
Links with print tasks.

Negative
Tone down the sound as it sounds really loud and bassy.
Speed up of the run as it looks like something out of a comedy
Establish more of a conflict between the antagonist and protagonist.
Production companies sound effect looks like it shouldn’t be there.
Weather man isnt in sync with what he is saying at the start

Improvements
Tone down the sound as it is too loud.
Alter the speed of the run of Callum and Tom as it looks like something out of benny hill.
Car crash scene doesn’t work too well where it goes pitch black.
Get rid of the flash sound effect at the start doesn’t belong there.
Need to make the audio in synce with the weatherman.

We designed a Consent Form so that each participant understood what was taking place in the film, and just in case the public questioned what we were doing.

November Update

From the beginning of November to date we have been following our script and call sheet for filming Electrio  having filmed various different shots in the location to make sure that visually the fight scene and chase scene are clear that the transition and effects that show our powers are added they can be clearly seen in the light. We have continued researching different transition and effects on professional editing sites so that we can get the foundations of ideas for the lightning transitions in our production.

We had also spent most of the later end of the month researching leading film magazine covers such as Empire and Total film to understand the conventional style and layout of these popular selling magazines, such as the pugs, master head, strap line, anchorage text and banners are all in the conventional place, look professional and clear. We kept the house-style so that it has its own distinguishing design that's distinctive from competitors.

We produced a magazine cover for a magazine we named "REEL FILM" we felt this was a significant title, we used a lightning background to convey the storm in our film and used a bold font that's eye catching but holds a professional look.  Leading up to our magazine photo design we had a photo shoot in front of a green screen doing various different poses so that we could choose for the most effective photos to show our  characters, we created a magazine cover for each character so that each front cover has its own spin to the personality of the character.

As a group we reviewed what we feel would be our target audience and created a thorough audience profile for what we feel this audience is in this case we believe that its a younger audience of teenagers from 13- 18 as we feel that they can relate to the life's of the teenage actors in our film that are still in education.

Our research into synergy also continued we feel that synergy is so effective by uploading our videos to platforms such as Blogger, Facebook and YouTube which creates a brand identity for Impulse inc as our productions can be linked through the sites and create a recognisable house-style to our followers.

Budget

Our film doesn’t require much money, this is because we already are the correct technology equipment and also all the props that we would like to use; we already own so we don’t have o buy anything. But what we do have to pay for is petrol, this is because we have a lot of different scenes and they are in different locations so we will have to drive there. Also another thing we need to pay for is food and drink as we will be spending a lot of time filming so we will need to take breaks and have something to eat and drink. So overall our budget to make this film is rather small, so we don’t have to worry about not be able to complete the film due to money problems.

15/11/2012- Synergy During Our Production

Synergy is the sharing of media from more then one platform. The use of synergy in are production was very effective as it created a brand identity for impulse inc, it means that we can share are work over different platforms such as YouTube, Blogger and Facebook creating a brand identity to the public and to create a constant house style throughout so are name is recognised by followers and can be trusted with the work and products we produce.

After final production we would upload are short films on to YouTube through a private account, this allowed us to get feedback from the most popular internet videoing site in the world, it didn't take long for are video to be watched and reviewed , the feedback received was all healthy and we took the advice and went on to improve. We had also used synergy by uploading are influential films presentations and evaluations to YouTube so that are audience can get a better understanding of or work and background into our production, the benefit of this is that it gave us a much wider audience for feedback by using other platforms instead of just getting reviewed by friends and others on the Media A level course.

From the start of our project we knew that the of use synergy of YouTube would be hugely influential and beneficial as there are so many young producers operating through YouTube who are there to help and guide others with encouraging feedback. We had also realised this from previous unlisted videos we had uploaded to YouTube before the course that uploading your production to YouTube gives you a much wider audience and greater chance of expanding your name.

We had also used synergy through the platform of Facebook this was also hugely beneficial as it gave a greater certainty of getting reviewed and as the majority of our Facebook friends are a similar age group of the younger teenage audience are video could be watched and commented by what has been our target audience throughout all our production. So this gave us feedback from the audience we aimed for and also broadened the followers and acknowledged of our brand identity of impulse inc. After uploading to Facebook it showed through the positive feedback that we had created a short film that reached out due to the use of witty humour and action greatly appreciated by the teenage generation.

Finally the last platform we used synergy for was Blogger. We had uploaded all our progress from the year since the creation of impulse inc onto Blogger so that are audience could see all the background information into our team and production, this was highly beneficial as our followers on Blogger are all currently or have produced short films or trailers, so that the advice that we would received from them was highly productive. We had connected all of this platforms together by adding links to each different form so that the audience can follow our progress and production and the link of these platforms allow them to work together to raise awareness to our product and having created a cohesive style throughout they can clear see our brand identity and that its is our work.

We had kept a clear professional style on each platform that we used so that it makes our production at impulse inc have a consistent appearance and house style throughout holding the interest of our followers and to show a sleek and modern look.

Update on what we have been doing

Recently we have done a couple of photo shoots; we have done this so we could then go on to create some posters and magazines. To do this photo shoot used a green screen and a camera. We have also been going out and doing some filming, mainly just small clips that we needed to do to link our film together and we also went out and re filmed some scenes that we needed to improve. We also went out and looked at some other locations so then we could compare them to the ones we had in mind and then we have decided what ones we think will suit our film best. We have also took some more location shots but they just need to be uploaded to the blog.

Feedback from our focus group

Callum Price influential film; fantastic four
The feedback that we attained;

Q1.Do you think this scene looks professional?
Yes professional - the editing and sound makes it realistic and you can tell that it has been expensively done.

Q2. How would we be able to create something similar to the effects in this short clip?
It could be possible with the use of green screen but may be very challenging but if the time is spent you could pull it off.

Q3. How could we show that the storm has given us these powers?
Maybe show the peoples using their powers instantly after being hit to give the audience an insight into what each individual person has.

Thomas Morgan influential film; Misfits

Q1. What age group do you think our film that is similar to this clip would appeal too?
Teenagers 15+ as they would be able to relate to the teenage characters, the clothes and situation that the actors are set in (6 form/college) and so they will understand the humour in which we hope to bring into our film.

Q2. What can we use to do something similar to the high standard storm shown in misfits?
Green screens will be need to use and slow motion , wide shot showing the storm effecting all of the characters at one and different angles to show emotion and shock to what has just happened to them.

Q3. Do you think the humour in this film is appropriate and do you think we should do something similar as our film is similar in audience?
Yes the humour is very suitable for a teenage age group which you are aiming for so would be effective however you need to be careful about the swearing as it may offend but if it works and is humorous I’m sure it will work well.

Ellis Trutwien influential film; a Spanish YouTube short film inspired by dragon ball z

Q1. Do you think that they have made the film look realistic and believable to the audience?
Yes the punching and kicking look realistic however the sound is very unrealistic and farfetched however it is effective in the idea that they have tried to copy the overdramatic fighting featured in the TV show dragon ball z. Although another downside is that the sound quality is crackly so this comes across as poorly done and unrealistic. The swinging when punching was also really overdramatic and would look ineffective if you used in your own film.

Q2.What did you think the dramatic music and sound effects work well with the fight scene?
To over the top sounded like star wars. The music is key to the build up however needs to mirror the mood in which you are trying to create to be effective.

Q3.How can we do something similar and as effective and entertaining?
The camera angles is key in the fight scenes so that you can be safe but make it look realistic, athleticism you will need to train and practise to make it look professional and like you are skilled fighters. Rolling on floors and martial arts and free running would look very effective if you could research into these arts it would look effective in your film.

Q4.What effects shown in this film our that you know of would highlights the superpowers that are actors have attained?
Force fields, a storm darkness/ gloom highlights mood of the change in state of the actor turning evil. Will look effective if the weather can instantly change to show a disruption in the world and show the strength of our powers.

Music Permission Massive Attack -Tear drop (Instrumental Remix)

This is 'Massive Attack - Teardrop (Instrumental Remix)'  created by CBY10111. I asked many people on YouTube and tried contacting many artist's websites. Most of my attempts failed. Eventually one person replied, confirming that I can use his music in my short film, this allows me to get round the copright issue if the artist gave me permission. The music is required because I need a soft neutral beat, and when I listen to this song I get a feeling of new beginnings, which is like in our short film you have the two teenagers carrying on with their life and also the addition of Lucas possibly coming back to life after his grave gets hit by red lightning. The soundtrack will also carry on through the credits.

Impulse Inc Intro

This is the first intro I've made for 'Impulse inc' which will be displayed at the the start of our short film. Please note that this is the first draft and it will consist of slight improvements to make it more professional by using feedback from others.

This is the second draft for our Intro for Impulse.Inc
We used the feedback from our teacher who said that "It already looks great, Ellis! The second lightning bolt seems more instantaneous in its destruction of the words. The first bolt seems to take a little too long to destroy them. That would be the only critical feedback I would offer."
So I worked on the timing  the lightning bolt struck and altered the sound to hopefully make a perfect Intro.

Influential Media - Fantastic 4

This is an influential film to us as these characters get hit by a magical storm and then they get super powers from it. In our film we are doing a similar thing as we have three main characters and they are all out together and they get hit by lightening, which is caused by the magical storm. When our characters get hit by lightening they receive these magical powers. Also in fantastic four there is one guy that miss treats his powers, so he starts to want to become more powerful and then takes his powers for bad use. We are doing something similar to this as well because one of the three friends gets too carried away and then starts to use his powers for bad, so then the other two friends have to team up to defeat there friend.

This is when the magical storm hits:

This is another shot of the magical storm:

This is where one of the characters gets hit by the storm:

This is another character getting hit by the storm:

Camera work:
The camera work in this film shows loads of close ups of the characters faces, so we can see the emotions in their facial expressions. In our film we want to have loads of close ups so the audience can see their reactions when they realise they have powers, we also want the audience to see their emotions they are going through when they discover their powers. Also in this film they use the camera for long shots as well as close ups and they also use a lot of establishing shots, so when we make our film we want a variety of different shots and different types of camera work.

This is a close up, so you can see their facial expressions:

This is also another close up so you can see the facial expressions:

This is another facial expression after she has just realised her powers:

This is also another facial expression that is used; we like how they have use a over shoulder shot and then display his facial expression in the mirror:

In our film we want each character to have their signature pose where they display their powers. In fantastic four they have a similar pose that we would like to use.
This is the signature pose that we would like to use but we want to change the flame into a small lightning bolt:
