First Test of an electric strike

This is a test run for the short film/trailer for 'Electrio'. I am currently using adobe after effects CS5.5 to create the lightning bolt and sony vegas to cut the clips. The aim was to see if I could do the desired effect our group wanted.

                                    

The first attempt at doing this consisted of looking amuterish and didnt look anywhere near the expected look. I began to panic to see if our whole idea for our film would be turned dwn by the the difficulty of the editing.

But then I changed a few things and did some research and managed to create this professional looking lightning bolt. With a sigh of relief that the film could go to plan. This is the edited clip without the sound effects.

This is the final draft for our first test run using additional sound effects. With this we are able to understand what we can expect throughout our short film/trailer. After doing this test, I know the required amount of time it takes to do this 'Electricty effect' and can use that to make sure the time management in my film is good.

“Are they still dead if there in my mind? When does a gift turn into a curse?When does an accident turn into a miracle?
This story is our story.

We were typical teenageboys; chasing girls, trying to have fun and scraping school grades. That sort.
We were close. Did everything together.
Then a miracle. Bigger than Chelsea wining the champions league. Samantha, the hottest girls in our school. Invited us to her party.
It was good. Until Lucas had a bit too much. We supported him home, It’s Whatfriends do right? Then out of nowhere, we were struck by lightning. None of uswere harmed in anyway, surely we shouldn’t even be here? .

 We had dreams.
We changed without even realising it. That lightning bolt that should havekilled us, gifted us. It improved the rate at which electrical impulses were sent to the brain.
Making us think and react faster.

That was’nt it. Duringa fit of rage Lucas used his gift like we have seen it before.
We all saw what we could do. It was something out of comic book.
We had to keep this on a downlow. No one could know about us. What if theyexperimented on us like they do in films. There was no way that was going to happen.

But poor lucas. 

His dreams, escalated into nightmares. Made him mad.

Until he turned into a Lucas we didn’t know. 

We had to change him. 

Before it was too late. 

Like I said he wasn’t Lucas anymore.

We fought and fought, not too realise it was to death. 

And here we are. The murderers of our best friend. We live in guilt. Never touse our gift again.

Equipment needed in 'Electrio'

Technical

·        Camera - To be able to capture our short film/trailer

·        Tripod – To be able steadily capture our film with the addition of being able to pan and tilt

·        Editing Software – for this projectwe will be advancing from sony vegas 11 to Adobe after effects CS5.5 as it is needed to fulfil the special effects requirements.

·        Computer – I will be using my Sony Vaio laptop, to edit my clips and organise data.

·        Homemade dolly – I will be making a dolly so we can move and capture scenes in a more professional manner which we hopefully will make us seem more advanced from the others.

Ellis Trutwein's Role in the 'Electrio'

My main role in this year’s project consists of being the editor. Being the editor it is my job to put the film together like a puzzle, making it easy for the viewer to watch while also looking professional. I will need to maximise my editing ability to fulfil requirements of my group, ‘Impulse Inc.’. They want me to add all of the special effects which includes lightning bolts and putting together fighting scenes. The lightning bolts are hard to pull off but with time and practice I will be able to achieve my goal.

Secondly, I will participate being an actor, which is to create a character so the audience can find me believable during my performance. I am required to fill out the role of Lucas Fircell. I will find this task simple as I will be basically playing a normal teenager which is what I am now so I can be myself. I will need to act scary and dark during the last scenes of the film and as I have previously done this in my last short film I will find this objective easier to achieve.

Furthermore, I will need to take the role being the sound recorder and collecting a variety of sounds and dialogue which will be needed in our short film. This include’s thunderbolts and various other sounds that will aid me in editing the film creating a more atmospheric environment for the viewer.

Protagonist: Callum price and Thomas morgan.
Antagonist : Lucas Fircell (Ellis Trutwein)

Plot Outline: Two teenagers are devastated by the loss of someone, standing over a gravestone. A voiceover of someone that is present begins to tell the story which unfolds about three best friends who are very close. At a party one of them drinks a little too much, so they escort there drunk friend home, holding with two of the friends supporting him side by side. Then miraculously they get hit by a lightning bolt. They are all shocked by what has happened, and walk home wondering how they had survived. They then begin to have dreams, a constant thunder storm. When they next all meet up, they notice they are all having the same dreams. While they are together, one of them gets angered and is shocked at how he has generated a lightning bolt. All three of them try it out for themselves and come to realisation that when they were struck by lightning they developed powers. When Callum states that we should be restricted from using the powers as we don’t want to draw attention to ourselves. When Lucas says’s we could use them for power. Lucas becomes more aggressive, fatigued as the story goes on and draws away from his other two friends. With this Lucas plans, practice his powers to do evil things as he has become mad. The two other friends, Callum and Tom become aware of his destructive intentions and find it him. They approach him only to negotiate with them, but Lucas feels like they are in his way so he strikes at them. It then turns into an intense battle with lightning bolts flying everywhere with the addition of hand to hand combat. They get him onto the ground and electrify him until he is dead. The voiceover now ends and the two teenagers walk away from the grave which is Lucas’s. The scene fades out then. Then a red lighting bolt strikes at Lucas’s grave and ends.

Influential films

This video of two men fighting using electrical powers has reached a whopping 4 million hits on youtube, so is a popular video. What they have done we hope to accompish in our media film. Some of the fighting sequences they used is exactly how we wanted and gives us new idea's for our trailer and short film. However, some of the effects used do seem a little cheesy and we don't want that in our project, as we want it to be professional.
